Doors open at 7pm. \nDon Ross was born and raised in Montreal and has lived in various parts of Canada over the course of his life. The son of a Mi’kmaw Indigenous mother and a Scottish immigrant father\, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music) degree from Toronto’s York University and started working full-time as a musician in 1988. That year he won the US National Fingerpick Guitar Championship for the first time\, and also played with his quartet Eye Music at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. \nConcentrating his touring primarily in Canada at the start of his career\, Don went on to sign with Sony Music/Columbia Records (Canada) in 1994\, releasing three CDs for the label. US-based Narada Records also licensed two pieces for the Masters of Acoustic Guitar CD in 1997. Meanwhile\, Don won the US National Fingerpick Guitar Championship for the second time in 1996. To this day\, he is still the competition’s only two-time winner. Don began touring more internationally at this point in his career\, concentrating especially on Germany and other central European countries. \nDuring the Covid-19 pandemic\, Don went back to university\, completing a Master of Arts degree in Orchestration through the University of Chichester (UK) and ThinkSpace Education\, and graduating in early 2021. He immediately started working extensively in the world of scoring orchestral and electronic music for video games\, films and television. \nIn addition to his solo performances and recordings\, Don also heads his quartet Don Ross Louder Than Usual\, which focusses on his more jazz-leaning repertoire. \nIn 2021\, Don won the prestigious Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts\, administered by the Canada Council for the Arts.

DESCRIPTION:This is a seated event. Please note: Revival has a capacity of 150 but only has seating for 80 patrons. If you arrive after the seated areas have been occupied\, there will only be standing room available. Doors open at 7pm. \nAmai Kuda et Les Bois don’t fit into the usual boxes. Breaking boundaries is part of their superpower. Not a band or a solo act\, they prefer to call themselves ‘a movement.’ Led by Amai Kuda\, their shows and albums always begin with the pouring of libations and the invocation of ancestors. This spiritual element weaves its way throughout all their music\, whether that be soothing acoustic ballads\, dancy electronic grooves or alt-rock-hiphop-infused political tracks. Ecouché\, for example\, the “stunning new single” (Indie88) off the new album EmUrgency! is sung entirely in a language of ancestral communication and can’t be delivered the same way twice. It embodies what NOW magazine has called the group’s “tantalizing Afro-soul” fusion sound\, “earthy and rootsy and good for your ears” (Errol Nazareth CBC in reference to AfroSoul Volume II: MaZai). Indeed\, it is the genre-defying nature of their work which led their debut album\, Sand from the Sea\, to be named “one of the year’s most exciting discoveries” (Nicholas Jennings – Canada’s foremost music journalist). \nDonné Roberts was born in Madagascar. Now based in Toronto\, he’s earned a matchless reputation for his compositions\, strong catchy melodic lines that makes his audience sing along with him during live performances thanks to the high energy of his live shows. Donné performs mainly in the Malagasy language of his native Madagascar. Yet\, this never proves to be a barrier to the audience\, providing living proof that music truly does transcend language. Donné came to wider recognition in Canada following the release of his albums Rhythm Was Born\, Internation and most recently OYA. He was a member of the Juno Award winning groups African Guitar Summit and Ovakango the African Orchestra. He is also a frequent collaborate with many other Canadian artists including Sultans of String and Amanda Martinez. \nPLEASE NOTE: If you purchased tickets to the Donné Roberts show in August of 2022 and did not receive a refund – those tickets will be honoured at this show.
