Comprised of six queer U of T graduates\, Trash Panda Brass is on a mission to diversify the brass scene\, promote inclusivity and bring welcoming energy to all. In an effort to bring music and joy to as wide an audience as possible\, Trash Panda has primarily focused on busking at various locations in and around downtown Toronto. They are quickly gaining a large following with their upbeat and fun loving tunes\, paying homage to iconic queer hits and icons. Trash Panda Brass is proud to be here and be queer! \nTara Moneka’s DIJLAH Sextet \nTara Moneka is a singer from Baghdad\, Iraq animated by her passion for world music and the impact of human rights in the arts. In 2021\, she founded an all-women band called “Dijlah\,”––which means the river Tigris in Iraq–– that features professional multicultural musicians who center their message around women’s rights. With her band\, Tara sings in many languages such as Arabic\, English\, Urdu\, Spanish\, Moroccan\, Swahili\, Turkish\, and more. She released her first single in December 2022 and is working on an album for April 2023. \nTara’s goal is to share her energy through her music and bring diverse people together for transformational experiences. \nQueen Pepper \nQueen Pepper is the complete package; She is a vocal powerhouse\, accomplished songwriter and she graces the stage with a spellbinding magnetic pull. \nQueen Pepper’s penchant for music should come as no surprise\, given her family background. Like so many great R&B and Jazz artists\, the Toronto-based vocalist grew up singing in the church. “Music is in my family\, and singing in church was my foundation\,” she explains. \n  \nAbout the College Street Jazz Festival\nSupported by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts\, Jazz In Toronto’s – College Street Jazz Festival is a live music festival that runs April 21–23\, 2023. \nThe three-day event will present an exciting program featuring the diverse talent the City of Toronto has to offer. We know that music moves us emotionally\, physically\, spiritually and expressively. Working with a certified music therapist\, music moves us intentionally and impacts us profoundly. \n“Our focus this year is bringing music therapy to children and youth\, especially those from underserved communities” said Chrissy Pearson\, Executive Director of CMTF. “There is no question that children and youth have experienced significant mental health challenges over the past several years and the life circumstances of many created an even heavier load to bear. He began his career in Canadian acts The Philosopher Kings and Prozzak before James’ passion for collaboration grew into a global songwriting and recording career with top artists including Drake\, Nelly Furtado\, Shawn Mendes\, Luis Fonsi\, Martin Garrix\, Yuna\, Lisa Marie Presley and many more. James has co-written and performed on hundreds of recordings\, with artists from every continent\, performed on stages from Wembley Stadium to Madison Square Gardens and Massey Hall. He has lived in Toronto\, London and LA and is at home in any studio in the world. \nJames has also released 4 albums as a solo guitarist\, most recently\, We Rise in 2022.

SUMMARY:Barrel Boys
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2012\, The Barrel Boys are a 5-piece string band based in Toronto. The band’s sound is built around rich vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumentals\, and their repertoire finely balances standard tunes with their own original writing. Their instrumentation lends itself to classic bluegrass\, but they are also fluent in old time\, classic country\, and Americana\, and their original material is informed by all of these styles. Each of the 5 members writes and sings their own tunes\, making for a wide stylistic range within the band’s sound. \nIn addition to being great songwriters\, The Barrel Boys are also seasoned performers. All 5 members crowd around a single vocal mic\, making for a beautiful vocal blend\, as well as an energetic and engaging experience.  The group first honed its craft through a 2-year-long weekly residency at Toronto’s Cloak and Dagger Pub\, where they performed 3-hr sets every Tuesday night. Since then\, they have been featured on stages of all sizes across Canada. His musical journey has taken him from jug band\, folk and swing to blues\, gospel and children’s music. DESCRIPTION:In honour of A Man Called Wrycraft\nNo\, “A Tribute To A Tribute To…” is not the typo you may think it is. This tribute to the iconic Canadian artist Bruce Cockburn is a long-overdue reprise of a previously scheduled Hugh’s Room Live concert curated by the late\, great\, Michael Wrycraft. We lost Michael in May of 2022. By “we”\, we mean the entire Canadian music industry and beyond. In addition to his multiple awards and nominations for his music artwork\, not mention his irrepressible personality\, Michael curated many shows for Hugh’s Room Live\, so the very least we could do was make sure this one happened. \nJoin us at Revival on March 9th for this musical tribute to one of Canada’s finest artists. As his own biography states: \nThroughout his career\, Cockburn has deftly captured the joy\, pain\, fear\, and faith of human experience in song. Whether singing about retreating to the country or going up against chaos\, tackling imperialist lies or embracing ecclesiastical truths\, he has always expressed a tough yet hopeful stance: to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight. “We can’t settle for things as they are\,” he once warned. “If you don’t tackle the problems\, they’re going to get worse.” \nFeatured musicians in this very special performance will include: Josh Finlayson & Andy Maze of the Skydiggers\, Don Ross\, Rebecca Campbell\, Michael Occhipinti with more to be announced soon.

SUMMARY:Cheikh Ibra Fam
DESCRIPTION:Cheikh Ibra Fam is a multi-dimensional artist whose nearly 15 year career has demonstrated a free and futuristic spirit\, well anchored in his Senegalese roots. He introduced his first international album in the Spring of 2022 entitled ‘Peace in Africa’ for the French record label Soulbeats Music. He is also a singer for Orchestra Baobab\, a famous Senegalese Afro-Cuban jazz band. Cheikh is an RFI Talent\, part of the Putumayo World Discovery Program and a socially involved artist who has collaborated with the UN Refugee Agency\, Association Monégasque Internationale pour L’Art Africain (AMIAA)\, and Innovation: Africa. \nCheikh Ibra Fam’s first solo album\, ‘Peace In Africa’\, is the Afro-pop fruit of this musical impetus\, it is as much anchored in Africa as it is open to the wider world\, connected to his ancestral roots and resolutely contemporary. “Before\, I was searching for myself\,” the singer confided with a sense of relief and satisfaction that hints to his quest for an artistic identity. \n\n \nThe 2023 Small World Music Series is generously supported by TD Bank of Canada\, the Government of Canada\, Canada Council for the Arts\, Ontario Arts Council\, and the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council. \n
